On February 4^th Respawn Entertainment, the studio who brought us the Titanfall Franchise, came out of nowhere with swinging kabars announcing and releasing a new addition into the Battle Royale scene, Apex Legends. In the first 72 hours of going live, EA announced Apex Legends had over 10 million players with over 1 million peak concurrent players jumping into the Legends Arena! Apex also sat comfortably in the Top 5 most watched games on both Twitch and Mixer, with close to 19 million hours watched.

Apex Legends is a F2P Battle Royale bringing a breath of fresh air into the genre. Twenty teams of three drop into the Arena after selecting a character from a list of eight Legends. Each Legend brings a specific gameplay role and character specific abilities to fulfill and round out your squad’s tactical needs. With an intuitive inventory system, one time use revive stations, new drop in mechanics, future cross play options and a contextual ping communication system; Apex Legends has received a lot of warm welcomes from the BR Community, including many of our members in MGL.

Next month, Apex Legends will start up their first Season, with each season lasting three months. In line with several other BR heavy hitters, each season will bring with it the option to purchase a Battle Pass which allows the players to earn levels, character and weapon skins, victory poses and other aesthetics. From the information available at this time, the first year roadmap will cover the Battle Pass, new Legends, new weapons and new loot.

With this being the first week, Apex Legends is the hot game to be jumping into to play and stream. There is even some buzz that Apex Legends has the potential to rival the ever dominant Fornite! As time progresses, we will see how well EA\Respawn handles the exposure and we will see how the game holds up in the ever growing Battle Royale Genre. Have you played it?
